In ancient China, medicine was often classified as either “external” or “internal” in treatment. Tui Na was considered to be one of the external methods, and thought to be especially suitable for use on the elderly and children.
Tui Na is a hands-on body treatment, as it is a form of massage and stimulation of acupressure points, which is often used in conjunction with traditional acupuncture to help move blocked Qi.
These techniques help towards the treatment of both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, as well abdominal and gynaecological conditions.
A body oil or herbal embrocant is often used to help move the Qi and herbal warming plasters can be placed on the area after massage to keep the Qi moving. Tui Na can also be carried out while the patient is dressed, especially when treating children or the elderly.
