Facial rejuvenation is one of the most recent forms of acupuncture used in the West, and should only be carried out by qualified professional acupuncturists who have had postgraduate training in the technique.
The process is a whole body balancing treatment; it is not just about beauty, but also about health. When the interior of the body is healthy and balanced, the exterior will reflect that state.
Therefore when treating the skin, the state of the internal organs is always assessed and treated as well.
A typical session of facial acupuncture lasts between 1- 1 ½ hours and involves points on the arms and legs as well as points on the face.
A series of 6 – 8 sessions is required as the effects are cumulative. Subsequently, top ups can be requested as and when the patient feels they need it, anything from monthly, twice yearly, at the change of the seasons, or annually.
In facial rejuvenation treatments, as well as the application of needles, a gentle form of Guasha (massage) is used to reduce fine lines and lift skin. Specialist equipment can also be used to lift saggy skin and reduce puffiness, especially around the eyes.
The results of the treatment depend on the individual patient, and results vary from gently brightening to instant, noticeable changes. However, most results are subtle, with most people being told how well they look after 2 or 3 treatments.
Patients who have facial rejuvenation treatments can also start to feel better in themselves as the internal imbalances are resolved. This is reflected in them looking brighter and fresher.
